Why carts get abandoned
Many abandoned carts trace back to reasons a store can fix: surprise costs, slow delivery, low trust and checkouts that ask too much. Baymard's survey of US shoppers puts a number on each.
| Reason shoppers gave | Share | What we build |
|---|---|---|
| Extra costs too high (shipping, tax, fees) | 40% | Shipping costs shown on product pages |
| Delivery was too slow | 20% | Delivery dates by Add to cart |
| Didn't trust the site with card details | 19% | Known payment badges, contact details |
| Site wanted me to create an account | 18% | Guest checkout as the default |
| Checkout too long or complicated | 17% | Fewer fields, autocomplete |
| Site had errors or crashed | 17% | Checkout tests on real phones |

Every store gets our Cart Leak Audit, a check of these six reasons from product page to confirmation. Baymard counts an average of 23.48 form elements in US checkouts and says a good one needs as few as 12, so the audit starts with form length.
Shopify vs WooCommerce vs BigCommerce
Shopify suits stores that want hosting, security and updates handled for them. WooCommerce suits stores that want full control on WordPress and can manage hosting. BigCommerce suits larger catalogs and B2B sellers. All three are options we build on, so the pick rests on your fees, catalog and team.
| Shopify | WooCommerce | BigCommerce | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hosting | Included in every plan | You choose and pay for it | Included |
| Platform cost | Monthly plan | Free, open-source plugin | Monthly plan, tied to sales volume |
| Outside gateway fee | 2% to 0.6% by plan | Set by your payment processor | 2% to 0.6% by plan, none on embedded gateways |
| Best for | Fast launch, small teams | WordPress sites, custom features | Big catalogs, B2B pricing |
| Watch out for | App costs adding up | Plugin updates and security | Plan upgrades as sales grow |
WooCommerce gives the most freedom, and freedom carries upkeep. Plugin security sits with you, so we keep extensions few and schedule updates before launch.

Check my storeSEO built into the store
Store SEO starts in the build, because filters, variants and product templates decide which URLs Google crawls. We set the rules at launch so your category and product pages carry the ranking weight, with thousands of near-duplicate filter pages kept out of the way.
- Faceted navigation. Filters for size, color and price can create endless URL combinations. Google's own guidance warns crawlers will hit a very large number of faceted navigation URLs and spend less time on useful pages. We pick which filters deserve their own indexable page, such as "women's trail running shoes", and block the rest.
- Canonicals. Variant and sorting URLs point back to the main product or category page, so ranking signals don't split.
- Product schema. Structured data on every product page, so Google can show price, availability, review ratings and shipping right in search results.
- Empty filters. Filter combinations with no products return a 404 status, as Google recommends.
What affects store cost and timeline
Store cost rises with catalog size, custom features and the number of systems the store has to talk to. A 40-product Shopify store on a tuned theme is a far smaller project than a 5,000-product catalog syncing stock with an ERP.
Timeline follows the same drivers, plus how fast clean product data arrives. Titles, variants, weights and photos often take longer to gather than the build itself. Migrations add time for data mapping, redirects and test orders, and we run those orders through every payment method before launch day.
A checkout clean-up, before and after:
| Checkout step | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Forced sign-up before payment | Guest checkout, account optional |
| Shipping cost | Revealed at final step | Estimated on cart page by ZIP code |
| Form | 22 fields across 3 pages | 12 fields with address autocomplete |
| Payment | Card only | Card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal |
| Trust | No badges or contact details | Returns policy and phone by the button |

Ask us directlyHow much does an ecommerce website cost?
Catalog size drives most of the price, then platform, custom features and integrations such as ERP sync. Running costs come on top: a monthly plan on Shopify or BigCommerce, hosting for WooCommerce, and any paid apps. Share your catalog and we'll price the build.
Should I use Shopify or WooCommerce?
Pick Shopify for a quick launch, managed hosting and less upkeep. WooCommerce fits if you already run WordPress, want full control and can handle hosting and plugin updates. Shopify charges a fee on outside payment gateways, while WooCommerce fees come from your processor and host.
Can you migrate my existing store?
Yes. A migration can carry over products, customers and order history, and each product and category address gets a 301 redirect to its new page. Google says these redirects keep PageRank intact and advises keeping them at least a year. Test orders run before the domain switches.
How long does it take to build an online store?
Build time depends on catalog size, custom features, integrations and how fast product data arrives. A small store on a proven theme moves fastest. Migrations add time for data checks and redirects. Each phase gets a target date when the project starts.
What causes most abandoned carts?
In Baymard's survey of US shoppers, extra costs such as shipping, tax and fees topped the list at 40% of those who abandoned. Slow delivery, low trust, forced account creation and long checkouts followed. Clearer pricing and a shorter checkout fix most of them.
Will a new store hurt my Google rankings?
A switch puts rankings at risk when product and category URLs change with no redirects, and Google expects some ranking fluctuation during any move. A full redirect map, matching page titles and working Product schema at launch help keep that dip small and short.
