Signs your pages need on-page work

Pages ranking in positions 11 to 20, collecting impressions but few clicks, or showing up for searches they don't fully answer are close to winning more traffic. Google already sees each one as relevant. It just isn't the best match yet, and a few focused edits can close that gap.

  • Stuck on page two. Search Console shows an average position between 11 and 20 for searches that matter to you.
  • Low click-through rate. Thousands of impressions, only a handful of clicks. The title or description usually misses what people want.
  • Google rewrites your titles. When the blue link differs from your title tag, Google often found yours unclear or stuffed. Its title link guidance asks for descriptive, concise titles with no keyword stuffing.
  • Two pages fighting. Your service page and a blog post keep swapping places for the same query. Google can't tell which one you want ranking for that search.

Why we start with page-two pages

Page two is where the quickest gains hide. A page in position 14 already has Google's attention, yet almost nobody scrolls that far. Lifting it onto page one can grow traffic within weeks, using a page you already own.

We pick pages with our four-step Page Two Pull:

  1. Pull the data. Export every query where your average position sits between 11 and 20 in Google Search Console.
  2. Keep what pays. Drop queries that won't bring leads or sales. Keep the ones tied to services and products.
  3. Check the intent. Compare your page with the current top five. If they're guides and yours is a sales page, we fix the format first.
  4. Find the gap. List what the top results cover that your page misses, from subtopics to examples, prices or FAQs.

The result is a short list ranked by likely revenue, which drives the first month.

Our 9-point on-page checklist

Our checklist covers the nine things that decide whether a page ranks and gets clicked, from title to schema. Every page we touch passes all nine before going live, whether we fix one page or two hundred.

  1. Title matches the main search
  2. Meta description is short, specific and sells the click
  3. One H1 that says exactly what the page offers
  4. The direct answer appears in the first 100 words
  5. H2s cover the subtopics top results share
  6. Facts, prices and dates are current and sourced
  7. At least three relevant internal links point in
  8. Images carry descriptive alt text
  9. Schema matches visible content

On-page SEO is one of three layers:

What we report

Every month you see each optimized page, before and after, side by side: its average position, impressions, clicks and click-through rate from Google Search Console, plus leads from GA4. Page-level numbers show exactly which change worked, so we can repeat the winners across similar pages and drop the changes that did nothing for clicks.

/blog/roof-replacement-cost/17.99.222140

Sample data for illustration.

We compare matching 28-day windows so seasonal swings and holidays don't skew the picture. When a page hasn't moved after two cycles, the report says so plainly and names the next test, such as a new title tag, a sharper answer up top or more internal links. You also see which optimized pages now show up in Google's AI Overviews, and a dated log of every change we made to each page.

What is on-page SEO?

On-page SEO is everything you change on a page to help it rank: title, headings, copy, images, internal links and schema. It tells Google what the page covers and gives searchers a clear reason to click, read and take the next step.

How much does on-page SEO cost?

Most providers price on-page SEO by the number of pages worked each month, or include it in a wider SEO retainer. Cost rises with the page count and the amount of rewriting. A one-off pass on a few pages costs less.

What is on-page SEO vs off-page SEO?

On-page SEO covers changes on your own pages: titles, headings, copy and internal links. Off-page SEO covers signals from other sites, mainly links and mentions. Strong rankings need both, and on-page is the part you fully control from day one.

Which tool is best for on-page SEO?

Start with Google Search Console, which shows real queries, positions and clicks per page. Add a crawler to check titles at scale and a content tool such as Surfer or Clearscope to compare your pages with the current top results.

Can ChatGPT do SEO?

It can help. ChatGPT is quick at drafting title options, suggesting headings and spotting gaps in copy. What it lacks is your Search Console data and a view of today's rankings, so test every idea against real numbers before it ships.

Is SEO still worth it in 2026?

Yes. Buyers still research on Google, and AI Overviews cite pages that are indexed and ranking. On-page work pays back fastest because it improves pages Google already trusts, and pages with clear, direct answers stand a better chance at the visit and the AI mention.
