What makes content rank in 2026
Content tends to rank in 2026 when it answers the search better than the pages already there, shows who wrote it and why they know, and adds something new. Google's own helpful content guidance asks whether a page provides "original information, reporting, research, or analysis" and "substantial value when compared to other pages in search results."
The same page settles the word count debate. Asked whether Google has a preferred length, it replies "No, we don't."
AI answers push the same way. Researchers at Princeton and IIT Delhi tested nine rewriting methods across 10,000 queries. Adding statistics, quotations and cited sources raised a page's presence in generative answers, while keyword stuffing scored below the untouched baseline.
Winning pages share four traits: a clear answer near the top, facts a reader can check, input from someone with hands-on experience and the format the searcher expects. A plumber's water heater cost guide built on real job prices has all four.
Writing for readers and AI at the same time
Good SEO writing serves a person skimming on a phone and an AI system pulling a passage into its answer. Both reward the same three habits: answer first, cite sources and keep each section self-contained, so every draft is built that way and checked against PROOF.
- Answer first. Readers get what they came for, and AI tools get a clean passage to quote.
- Sourced. Facts link to the original study, which earns trust from readers and from editors.
- Self-contained. Each section names its subject and stands alone, with no "as mentioned above." Google's AI features use query fan-out, pulling answers for subtopics, so a section may be read without the rest.
PROOF, in writing terms: the Purpose is set in the brief, Real expertise comes from your expert's interview, Original value is the example or data point only you have, Obvious answers lead each section, and Footnotes back every claim.

Find my content gapsOur 6-step writing process
Every piece moves through six steps, from search data to a published page, and each step has one owner so nothing slips between people. Your side is one expert interview and one round of draft review.
- Research. The query, the top results and related questions.
- Brief. One page with intent, outline, sources and expert questions, approved by you.
- Interview. We record a short conversation with your expert.
- Draft. A writer turns the brief and interview into the piece.
- Edit. An editor checks facts, links and tone against the brief.
- Publish prep. Title, meta, schema and links, ready to upload.
Our planning ranges:
| Content type | Typical length | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Service page | 800 to 1,400 words | Buyers comparing providers |
| How-to guide | 1,200 to 2,500 words | Problem-stage research |
| Comparison page | 1,000 to 2,000 words | "X vs Y" and "best" searches |
| FAQ entry | 150 to 400 words | Single, narrow questions |
Sample brief
Every brief fits on one page, so your expert can read it in two minutes and the writer knows exactly what the finished piece must do. You approve it before drafting starts. Here's the layout, filled in for a dental clinic:
| Field | Entry |
|---|---|
| Target search | how long do dental implants last |
| Intent | Problem stage, wants a number and what changes it |
| Answer to lead with | A clear range, then the factors that shorten or extend it |
| Questions to cover | Implant vs crown lifespan, smoking, replacement cost |
| Expert to interview | Clinic's lead implant dentist |
| Sources to cite | Published dental research, ADA patient pages |
| Internal links | Implant service page, financing page |
| Call to action | Book a consultation |
Sample data for illustration.
The brief also lists the top three ranking pages and one gap in each, so the writer knows what "better" means before drafting a word. Where your expert disagrees with those pages, that view goes in too.
SEO content writing pricing
You pay per piece or by monthly bundle, and the rate depends on length, research depth and how technical your field is. Expert interviews and original data add the most hours, so they move the rate more than word count does.

Ask us directlyWhat is an SEO content writer?
An SEO content writer creates pages and articles built to rank in search and answer real questions. They research the query, study what already ranks, structure the piece around a clear answer and handle titles, headings and internal links for you.
How much does it cost to write content for SEO?
It depends on length, research depth and topic difficulty. Most providers charge per word, per piece or by monthly bundle. Two quotes only compare fairly when both include the same research, expert input, editing and fact-checking, since those drive both price and results.
Can ChatGPT write SEO content?
ChatGPT can draft quickly, suggest outlines and tidy wording. It can't interview your expert, check today's results or confirm a statistic is real. Google judges quality and originality, so AI drafts need human research, editing and fact-checking before they're worth publishing.
Is SEO still worth it in 2026?
It is. Google still sends visits to pages that answer well, and its AI answers draw on indexed pages. Fewer people click when an AI summary appears, so each page has to earn its visit with a sharper answer, a trusted author and facts worth citing.
How long should an SEO article be?
As long as the search needs. Google says it has no preferred word count. A narrow question may need 300 words, while a buying guide may need 2,000. We set length by studying the pages that rank and the questions readers still have.
How do you make sure content is accurate?
Every fact links to its original source, and an editor checks each link before delivery. For technical or regulated topics, your expert reviews the draft too. Claims we can't trace get cut, and we flag anything in your notes we couldn't verify.
