AI search / Visibility audit
AI visibility audit.
Our AI visibility audit shows how ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google's AI Overviews answer when buyers ask about your category. We run real buyer questions many times on each tool, log who gets named and cited, and hand back a ranked fix list.

Signs you're missing from AI answers
The clearest signs are ChatGPT naming three competitors for your core service and skipping you, quoting the wrong prices or locations, or citing links that never mention you at all. Each one means a buyer got a shortlist without you.
- Rivals get named, you don't. Ask "best [your service] in [your city]." Smaller firms appear and you don't, which often means the tool found little about you.
- The facts are wrong. Old prices or a closed office. Google warns in its Search help that AI Overviews "can and will make mistakes", so check what's being said.
- Your site is never the source. ChatGPT search and Perplexity show the links behind each answer. If they all point to directories and rival blogs, your pages aren't the ones being quoted.
- A crawler is blocked. OpenAI says sites that opt out of OAI-SearchBot "will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers". One template robots.txt rule can do that.
How we run the audit: the Echo Test
We run every audit in five steps, asking each prompt more than once on every single tool. Repeats matter because AI answers wobble. In SparkToro's 2,961 test queries, two brand lists matched in order only about once per 1,000 runs.
- Ask. We write prompts the way buyers phrase them: "best payroll software for a 20-person company," "is [brand] legit," "[brand] vs [rival]." You approve the list.
- Repeat. Each prompt runs several times on each tool, in fresh sessions with no saved chat history.
- Compare. We count how often you're named against each rival. A share across many runs holds steady far better than one answer, so that's what we report.
- Trace. Every cited link gets logged by domain and type, such as a review site or forum thread.
- Fix. Each gap gets a priority by effort and likely effect, from a ten-minute robots.txt fix to a new comparison page.

Get my snapshotFive common gaps behind weak AI visibility
Weak AI visibility often traces back to five common, fixable gaps: pages Google can't show, facts that disagree, buried answers, thin outside proof and no comparison pages. A site can have several, and each keeps a brand out of answers.
- Pages Google can't show. Google only uses pages for AI Overviews if they're indexed and allowed a snippet. A stray noindex tag removes one.
- Facts that disagree. Your hours or service area differ between your site, your Business Profile and listings like Yelp. AI tools may pick the stale one.
- Answers buried deep. The price range or key spec sits halfway down a long page or inside an image, where tools can't lift it cleanly.
- Thin outside proof. Few reviews, press mentions or forum threads back up your claims.
- No page for comparisons. Buyers ask "X vs Y." Without your own answer, tools quote a rival's take on you.
Sample audit deliverable
You get two things: a share-of-voice report showing how often each brand is named on each AI tool, and an answer log recording each prompt, the full reply and the links it cited. Together they show where you stand today and why, one prompt at a time.
| Brand | ChatGPT | Perplexity | Gemini | AI Overviews |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| You | 12% | 20% | 8% | 15% |
| Rival A | 64% | 55% | 47% | 60% |
| Rival B | 38% | 41% | 52% | 33% |
Sample data for illustration.
| Prompt | Tool | You named? | Top cited source | Issue |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| best HR software for 20 staff | ChatGPT | No | G2 category page | Missing from G2 list |
| [brand] pricing | Perplexity | Yes | Old Capterra listing | Price from 2023 |
| [brand] vs Rival A | Gemini | Yes | Rival A's blog | No comparison page |
Sample data for illustration.
Each row ties to a fix on your list, ready to act on once the readout ends. Rerun the prompts three or six months later and the two reports, side by side, show what moved.

Ask us directlyWhat is an AI visibility audit?
An AI visibility audit tests what ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews say about your business and category. It logs how often you're named, which sources get cited, which rivals appear and whether your facts are right, then ranks the fixes worth making.
How do you measure AI visibility?
Run a fixed set of buyer prompts on each AI tool several times and count the share of answers that name you, plus cited sources and rival mentions. One answer is a poor measure, since the same prompt can return a different list each time.
Is Google visibility the same as AI visibility?
They overlap. AI Overviews draw on pages indexed and eligible for a snippet, so strong SEO helps there. ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini use their own crawlers, partners and sources, so a page one Google ranking won't always earn a mention in them.
Can ChatGPT do an SEO audit?
It can review a page you paste in and suggest clearer headings or missing questions. It can't see your Search Console data, crawl errors or how often it names you across many runs, which is what a real audit measures.
What does AI visibility mean?
AI visibility is how often, and how accurately, AI tools mention your brand when people ask questions you belong in. It covers being named in the answer, cited as a linked source and described with the right prices, services and locations.
What happens after the audit?
You get a ranked fix list for your own team or for us. Common next steps are clearing crawler blocks, correcting facts across profiles and writing comparison pages. Rerunning the same prompts a few months later shows what changed and where.
